ESAE Breakfast Meeting - Event Update

Is your Association driving the online conversation?:
The use of social media tools to make your message heard |
|
| |
On 17 June we enjoyed a valuable morning of conversation, insight and debate as we heard from Helen Dunnett, Online Communication Consultant working with Microsoft Europe as their EU Corporate Communications Manager.
Communicators and policy managers within associations today are facing challenging times. Gone are the days when a well-designed website with static content would do the trick and the real communication was conducted off-line. |
 |
Today, associations are under pressure to develop and introduce social media as part of their overall communication strategy to reach out to their members and the wider community, as well as political stakeholders. But where does one begin and how do you stop it all going horribly wrong?
Over 75% of journalists use the web to research an article. Political assistants say they use the internet every day to research dossiers, and an increasing number of politicians and commissioners are introducing social media tools to listen, learn and spread their opinions. Are you contributing to the content they should be reading online?
Are you keeping your members and other stakeholders appropriately engaged to increase your messaging?
This session looked at the various social media applications adopted by associations - each with its own audience, its own capabilities and its own set of risks and rewards.

Inside the formal meeting rooms, there has been a trend in recent years for panel discussions to migrate from head tables to easy chairs. The change is not just cosmetic. |

Associations need to stop automatically cranking out information in a we’ve-always-done-it-this-way mindset and to start thinking strategically about helping members zoom in on the right information. |
